Programs

OSP trains small farmers in modern production techniques, provides assistance to area farmers suffering financial hardships and mediates for the rights of black farmers. As a means of food recovery, a small farmer gleaning program and two emergency food pantries exist to assist the hungry in the community.

The Stamp Out Hunger Project uses small plots of land to teach welfare recipients, the working poor and prison-discharged individuals to grow a quality food product. This program also provides surplus food for the elderly and those in need.

The Rural Economic Business Cooperative Development Program (RBCD) creates agri-business jobs and employment opportunities and is developing a rural cooperative business model for replication to other economically depressed areas. A retail marketing facility for farm and agribusiness products has also been developed through this program.

The Field of Food for Recovery Initiative (FFRI) is an information and food outreach program that hosts social workshops on solutions to hunger and poverty. Through Women in Today's Agriculture Project, resources and contacts are compiled and shared with women farmers on how and where to apply to funds. And the Youth in Today's Agriculture Project is teaching the next generation of farmers how to grow crops with low maintenance. OSP's on-farm demonstrations and workshops give participating women and youth an opportunity to grow and prepare products that are environmentally safe.
